V60 Brew Guide
How to Brew a V60 Brewer
The V60 is a cone-shaped pour over brewer known for producing a clean, bright, high clarity cup. Its 60-degree angle, single draining hole and spiralled ridges allow water to flow freely through the coffee bed, giving brewers a high level of control over flavour, clarity and extraction. Available in ceramic, glass, metal and plastic, the V60 is lightweight and accessible — a favourite among coffee enthusiasts as well as speciality coffee shops.
Watch our brew video and follow the step-by-step guide to get the most from your V60 brewer.

Our Approach
Recipe: Coffee: 15g (medium) | Water: 250g at 94°C | Brew time: 3:00–3:30
Equipment: V60 Brewer | Acaia Scales | Feature Coffee Subscription
Step by Step Guide

Step 1
Prepare your setup. Gather all ingredients and equipment.

Step 2
Heat your brewing water to 94°C.

Step 3
Fold and place the filter in the brewer. Rinse thoroughly with hot water to remove any papery taste and preheat the server. After 60 seconds preheating, discard the rinse water from the server.

Step 4
Grind 15g of coffee to a medium consistency (caster sugar texture), add it to the brewer, and gently shake to level.

Step 5
Place the V60 on the scales, tare to zero, start your timer, and pour over 45g of hot water in a circular motion, ‘blooming’ the coffee.

Step 6
At 0:30, pour an additional 55g of water in a steady circular pattern, to 100g.

Step 7
At 1:00, pour again until you reach 150g.

Step 8
At 1:30, pour the final amount of water, totalling 250g on the scales.

Step 9
Allow all the water to drip through, aiming for a total brew time of 3:00–3:30 minutes. Serve immediately and enjoy.
Why Brew Coffee with a V60?
The V60 brewer gives you full control over ratio, grind size, water temperature, agitation, and flowrate, making it an ideal method for brewers who enjoy experimenting and refining their technique. It highlights subtle flavours, nuanced acidity and aromatics, especially in lighter-roasted, washed or fruit forward coffees. Its accessible design also makes it suitable for beginners, while offering enough precision and room for creativity for experienced brewers.
Expert Tip
"The V60's cone shape creates a deeper coffee bed, which makes pouring technique particularly important. Pour slowly and evenly, aiming to keep the bed level throughout the brew for greater clarity and balance in the cup."

Brewing Tips
- Both the filter paper and coffee grounds are suitable for home composting.
- If your coffee takes longer than 3:30 minutes to brew, make your grind setting coarser; if it is less than 2:00 minutes, make your grind setting finer.
- When pouring, avoid hitting the walls of the brewer directly to avoid chanelling and promote even brewing across the coffee bed.
- The V60 is a versatile filter coffee brewer that is great for experimentation. Subtle tweaks to grind, water temperature, bloom time and dosage can create notable flavour changes.
- The adaptability means that you can brew any coffee using the V60, but it has great capability in highlighting brightness, clarity, and more subtle flavour notes often found in light and medium roast coffee.
